Fact Checking Policy

At OAC Stories, factual integrity is the foundation of every story we publish. Our fact-checking process is designed to ensure that all information presented to our readers as fact has been independently verified, clearly sourced, and accurately represented.

All factual claims in feature stories and news reporting are reviewed by at least one independent fact-checker before publication.

Scope of Fact Checking

Our fact-checking standards apply to:

  • -Feature articles and investigative reports
  • -News briefs and event coverage
  • -Statistical claims, data, and numerical information
  • -Quotes attributed to named individuals
  • -Historical references and contextual background

Opinion pieces, personal essays, and clearly labeled satire are not subject to the same fact-checking process, though we still require that any factual claims embedded in opinion content are accurate.

Our Process

1. Pre-Publication Review

Each factual claim in a submitted article is flagged for review. Our fact-checkers work independently from the article’s author and editor to verify each flagged claim against primary sources, official records, peer-reviewed research, or direct confirmation from the relevant parties.

2. Source Verification

We prioritize primary sources, including government databases, peer-reviewed journals, official statements, public records, and direct interviews. Secondary sources are used only when primary sources are unavailable and are cross-referenced against multiple outlets.

3. Quote Confirmation

Quotes attributed to named individuals are confirmed against original recordings, transcripts, or direct correspondence wherever possible. Quotes obtained through secondary sources are clearly attributed to their origin.

4. Data & Statistics

Numerical claims, statistics, and data presented in our content are traced back to their original source. We review methodology where relevant and disclose any limitations or caveats in data interpretation. We do not misrepresent statistical findings or cherry-pick data to support a narrative.

Post-Publication Corrections

If a factual error is identified after publication — whether by our team, a subject of the story, or a reader — we investigate promptly. Verified corrections are issued transparently at the top of the affected article, with a note explaining what was incorrect and what the accurate information is.

We do not delete or silently alter published content to obscure errors. A record of all significant corrections is maintained in our corrections log.

Reporting Misinformation

If you believe a piece published on OAC Stories contains inaccurate information, we encourage you to contact our fact-checking team directly at [email protected]. Please include the article title, the specific claim you believe is inaccurate, and supporting evidence for your concern. We take all credible reports seriously.

Independence

Our fact-checking team operates independently from editorial, advertising, and commercial departments. Fact-checkers are not subject to pressure from editors, writers, or external parties to approve or suppress findings. Their determinations are final unless new evidence is presented for review.
